Uhi Practices

Always at the forefront of contemporary developments of customary Ta Moko practice, Julie has spent the last two years investigating the skin marking technique of tapping the uhi or toothed comb-like tool - to insert ink under the skin. This research extends to an investigation and sharing of other indigenous historic practices.

Maori Art and Design

In 2010 Julie saw the product of intensive research into Maori Art and Design published into a book by New Holland Press. This production provides a wholistic examination and overview of the role and form of Maori Arts from Maori philosophical foundations of artistic practices.
